This coming spring of 2010 or early fall of 2010 driving to see a college in Montana.?

Driving from South Bend, In to Dillon, Montana...daughter not much for driving and would like to make this trip as scenic, and fun for us as possible. Also not sure about the terrain. Willing to drive half way and stay somewhere overnight and finish trip on day 2. What sights and driving would you suggest. I hate driving in Chicago and wonder if a round about way might be calmer and easier on my nerves.
