The Mayans come from a single area that is today divided into five nations. But in their time it was not divided that way. Historians today call this area "Mesoamerica", which means "middle America". Today, Mesoamerica is split into the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador.
