Does a clover lawn needs to be reseeded?

I am really considering growing a clover lawn because I've read that it is more drought tolerant than a gr one, but I've also read that clover is a short lived perennial meaning that it will only reproduce itself for about two or three years. Is it true that clover does not reseeds itself?
